Buenos Aires

Steak, tango and a very late dinner

Buenos Aires

Two hours from Santiago and a completely different continent in feel: European avenues, Italian food, football on every corner and dinner that starts at ten. An easy stopover on the way home.

Best time
Year round — November is warm and the jacarandas are purple
Recommended days
3–4 days
Getting there
2h flight from Santiago, or an overnight stop on the way to Europe

Where to fly

Fly Santiago (SCL) → Buenos Aires with LATAM, Aerolíneas Argentinas or JetSMART — 2 hours, from about €120 return. International flights use Ezeiza (EZE), regional ones Aeroparque (AEP), which is 10 minutes from the centre. Check which airport your onward flight leaves from before booking.

What not to miss

Palermo

Palermo

Soho and Hollywood: leafy streets, jacarandas in November, the best restaurants and bars of the city, and the parks of Bosques de Palermo for a Sunday.

San Telmo & La Boca

San Telmo & La Boca

Sunday market and antiques in San Telmo, then the painted houses of Caminito and the Boca Juniors stadium. Go by day and stay on the main streets.

Recoleta

Recoleta

The famous cemetery, Evita's grave, grand avenues and the Bellas Artes museum. Coffee at a classic café afterwards.

Tigre delta

Tigre delta

An hour north by train: wooden houses on stilts, boats instead of cars, and lunch on the water. The best day off from the city.

Day by day

This is only a suggestion. We have not been here ourselves yet — this is how a trip could look. We recommend doing some further research and shaping it into your own adventure.

Day 1

Palermo

Slow start, walk the Bosques de Palermo, then dinner late — nobody eats before nine — and a bar in Soho after.

Day 2

Centre & Recoleta

Plaza de Mayo, Teatro Colón, Avenida 9 de Julio, the Recoleta cemetery, and a tango show or milonga in the evening.

Day 3

San Telmo & La Boca

Market and antiques in San Telmo (best on Sunday), then Caminito, and an asado dinner to finish.

Day 4

Tigre delta

Train from Retiro to Tigre, a boat through the delta, lunch on the water and back into town for the last night.
